Lacquer bi-form tebako (cosmetic box) Japan, Meiji Period, late 19th/20th century

The form of the box is of two conjoined boxes and has a similar shaped tray to the interior. The top, sides and the tray have a hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, kirigane and mother of pearl design of a mountainous landscape. The interior and the base of the box are in nashiji lacquer.

9cm wide, 5cm high, 10cm long

Condition

Minor nicks to base and rim. The top of the box has small cracks to one corner and rubbing to another corner. Otherwise the box is in good condition.
