Japanese Ceramics & Works of Art Object Details

An unusual shaped lacquer tripod dish Japan, Edo Period, 18th century

The dish is of circular form on three tripod legs. The whole dish is decorated in black lacquer with a hiramaki-e design in the shape of bundles of wheat.

23cm wide, 6.5cm high

The top of the dish is slightly faded with a few marks and spotting. The rim has three minor chips. One of the legs has come off and has been neatly re-glued so that the repair is barely visible. Otherwise the dish is in good condition.
