Jian hare's fur tea bowl China, Fujian Province, Southern Song/Yuan Dynasty, 13th/15th century

SOLD

The russet coloured iron rich stoneware bowl is of squat circular form with a black glaze that has withdrawn from the rim to create the hare's fur effect.

Dimensions

9cm wide, 4cm high

Condition

There are a number of firing marks. The rim is misshapen. There is grit caught in the glaze. One side is scratched and rusted. Otherwise the glaze has a nice streaking to it and the bowl is structurally in good condition.

Note

This bowl has an unusual shape in that it is much squatter than normal. It was probably a piece that was either produced rapidly for local consumption or was a waster from the kiln.
