Of ovoid footed form with a reticulated cover. Decorated with a phoenix on a paulownia tree, signed to the back
15.5cm high
There is a small nick to the underside of the rim, otherwise it is in good condition.
In Japanese mythology the phoenix or ho-o bird appears only in prosperous and peaceful times. It is said to nest only in kiri trees which is the Japanese variety of paulownia.
