Lacquer, mother of pearl and wood shikishibako (poem sheet box) Japan, Meiji Period, 19th century

The box is of rectangular form with rounded edges. The cover is decorated with a naturalistic design of leaves in takamaki-e with hiramaki-e details. The interior is not decorated.

20.5cm wide, 3cm high, 23.5cm long

Condition

There are very light marks and scratches to the box from dust. The lacquer has been mildly rubbed. The corners of the box are a little delicate. Overall, the box is in good condition.
