67cm wide, 110cm high

Condition

This is one fold out of what would have originally have been a larger screen consisting of two or more folds. The painting is discoloured with marks to the gold. It has many creases on it. Overall it is in good condition for its age.

Note

The horse in Japan was a symbol of the samurai and of martial power, strength and vitality. In this instance gamboling and frolicking horses are a symbol of free-spirited male youths awaiting the call of duty.
